The YDE (Installer's Responsible Declaration) certifies that a property's electrical installation is safe. When it is required, how long it lasts, what is inspected, and how it is issued in Nea Vrasna, Asprovalta, Stavros and the Municipality of Volvi.
The Installer's Responsible Declaration (YDE) — also known as the electrician's certificate or HEDNO (DEDDIE) certificate — is the official document certifying that a property's internal electrical installation is safe and fit for use.
At Atractos, a technical office in Nea Vrasna, we carry out the full technical inspection and issue YDE certificates for homes, commercial properties and holiday rentals across Asprovalta, Stavros and the Municipality of Volvi.
What is the YDE and what does the inspection cover?
The YDE is not a formality: it is the assurance that your property hides no risk of electric shock or fire. Under HEDNO (DEDDIE) rules it is issued only by a licensed electrical installer, after a thorough inspection.
During the inspection the electrical engineer checks the critical points of the installation:
- The distribution board and its protective devices.
- Correct operation of the residual current device (RCD) — the main protection against electric shock.
- The continuity and effectiveness of earthing.
- The condition of cables, sockets and switches.
- Whether the installation is compatible with the building's loads and use.
When do you need a YDE certificate?
You need a new YDE in the following cases:
- A new electricity connection, for new-build or fully renovated buildings.
- Reconnection after a supply disconnection.
- Changing the name on the electricity account, when the previous YDE has expired or is not registered with HEDNO (DEDDIE).
- Switching supplier, where the supplier requests it because the certificate has expired.
- Increasing or decreasing the supply capacity.
- A full or partial renovation involving electrical changes.
- Expiry of the previous YDE.
How long is a YDE certificate valid?
Validity depends on the property's use: typically 10 to 14 years for homes and 1 to 5 years for commercial premises or food-service establishments. The heavier the use, the more frequent the re-inspection.
How Atractos issues your certificate
Getting a valid YDE takes four steps:
- Contact and on-site survey: you call Atractos and the licensed engineer visits your property.
- Technical inspection: the necessary measurements are taken with calibrated instruments — earth resistance, RCD trip time and conductor insulation.
- Remedial work where needed: if faults are found — for example an old board with no RCD — the necessary repairs are carried out.
- Digital submission: the YDE is completed and uploaded through the official process, ready for submission to HEDNO (DEDDIE).
What documents do you need?
Have these ready when the certificate is issued:
- A recent electricity bill.
- The supply number (meter point reference).
- Identity details of the owner or legal user.
- The previous YDE, if one exists.
What happens without a valid YDE?
Without a valid and current YDE registered with HEDNO (DEDDIE), no administrative action can be completed on your supply — a name change, reconnection or capacity increase.
Beyond paperwork, what matters most is the safety of your family or your guests, especially in older properties and holiday homes in our area that stay closed for long periods.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the YDE and who can issue it?
- The YDE (Installer's Responsible Declaration) is the certificate confirming that an electrical installation is safe. It can only be issued by a licensed electrical installer, after a technical inspection and measurements.
- When do I need a new YDE certificate?
- For a new electricity connection, reconnection after disconnection, a name change on the account, a supplier switch, a capacity increase or decrease, a renovation involving electrical work, and of course when the previous certificate expires.
- How many years is a YDE valid for?
- Typically 10 to 14 years for homes and 1 to 5 years for commercial premises or food-service establishments, depending on use.
- How much does the inspection and YDE cost?
- Cost depends on the size, age and condition of the installation, plus any remedial work. Atractos provides a documented quote after the on-site survey, before any work begins.
- Do holiday rentals need a YDE certificate?
- Yes. Holiday rentals fall under heavier-use categories with more frequent re-inspection, and they need a valid YDE for lawful operation and guest safety.
